There is really no limit to the events that we can bring a sense of occasion to. The above are just a few. You will have your own in mind. In our lifetime we will cross many thresholds - maybe from married to single, one gender to another, child to adult, one decade to another, even moving overseas from one country to another.
A gathering to mark the transition. To show appreciation for the life spent in the original gender and all that it taught you and to welcome in the new gender and all its opportunities. A chance for your family to publicly champion and honour the new you, and for you to be reintegrated into your family in your new identity.
Why should we limit coming of age celebrations to the traditional 16,18 and 21? Maybe you feel a huge shift in your life at 40, 50, 36, 95?? We change all the time. Life events outside of ourselves can cause seismic shifts inside ourselves - bereavement, divorce, illness, childbirth, redundancy, pandemics. They can all cause us to question how we have been living our lives up to this point and lead us to a conscious shift towards a different way of living. A ceremony recognises and acknowledges that something has changed. Whatever this something is, a ceremony helps mark it, brings in family and friends, elevates it from ordinary to extraordinary.
There is really no limit to the events that we can bring a sense of occasion to. The above are just a few. You will have your own in mind. I can't wait to hear about it.
